Mrs. Miller's 3rd Graders have been participating in a global collaboration project centered around the Flat Stanley book series by Jeff Brown. In the book, Stanley is flattened by a bulletin board and becomes "mail-able". Students colored their own "Flat Stanley's" and mailed them to various known addresses around the United States (family members, friends, and other connections), along with information about the beautiful island of Wrangell, and also to a few well known people or organizations. They have heard back from so many amazing and talented people who shared their photos and writings about Flat Stanley's adventures with them. This list includes hearing from President Obama, Her Majesty the Queen from Buckingham Palace, Governor Bill Walker, the Seattle Seahawks, and the International Vienna School to name a few. This also included a published author who sent us a signed copy of her book! The students' are excited about new connections they've made, the geographical locations they've learned about, and all of the language arts and social studies that has accompanied this project! Mrs. Miller's class received a visit from Representative Dan Ortiz, at his request, to deliver his Flat Stanley and be interviewed by the third graders. More information can be checked out on the bulletin board outside Mrs. Miller's Classroom door, and at her classroom Facebook page.
