Meet the Principal
Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. David Macri
Greetings and good day.
Please allow me to introduce myself as your 2018 WHS/SMS principal and welcome you to your 2018 school year!
My name is David M. Macri and I am entering my 32nd year of teaching. I hold several teaching as well as other advanced degrees and certifications as an education administrator and school business manager. I am certified as a 7 – 12 grade Industrial Arts and English teacher and have experience teaching both subjects for eight years. I have also taught in a one-room school house where I was responsible for teaching all subjects to all students grades K – 12.
My principal experience includes serving in buildings ranging from 130 students to 2,600 students. I have also served as a school business manager, curriculum and maintenance director as well. I have also served overseas as a superintendent working in remote and isolated regions to instil 21st century teaching skills among the Bedouin of Arabia, the Orang Asli of Malay and the Bajou of the Philippines.
I am excited and humbled to be a part of the Wrangell Public School District. I feel as if the community and parents of Wrangell believe education to be a valuable asset to their children and a tool to advance their community. All of this is in order to maximize their overall potential to achieve great things not only for their individual children but as a total community.
My wife Olivia and I have been graciously accepted upon our arrival not only as educators but also as community members. We both look forward to learning more about our new home here in Southeast Alaska and becoming a part of the Wrangell Family.
