Dr. Debbe Lancaster is entering her third year as the superintendent of Wrangell Public School District. Prior to moving to Wrangell, Dr. Debbe Lancaster worked for the North Slope Borough School District as a teacher and a principal. During the time on the North Slope, Dr. Lancaster spent six years as a science curriculum writer and facilitator of culturally relevant science lessons. For two of those years, she acted as the curriculum facilitator for the science department. She also served as an Adjunct Professor, teaching adult students biology through Iḷisaġvik College.
Dr. Lancaster began her teaching career in 2000 in Temple, Texas. She served in several positions during her tenure including Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate biology teacher, dual credit science teacher, science department chair, vertical/horizontal alignment for science chair, and as middle school science teacher.
Dr. Lancaster grew up in Albequerque New Mexico and spent most of her adult life in Texas. She earned a Doctor of Chiropractic degree (1990), a Master’s of Educational Leadership from UAS (2014) and a Superintendent Endorsement from UAS (2018). Her undergraduate education came from Texas A&M University. Before her career in education, Dr. Lancaster owned and managed a successful, private chiropractic practice and a physical rehabilitation facility for neuromusculoskeletal injuries.
She and her husband Michael are proud to call Wrangell their home. They have four grown children and eight grandchildren located in Alaska, Minnesota, and Texas.
